Sex Offender Information for Madison County

The Madison County Sheriff's Office is providing information to the community, about certain convicted sex offenders, in accordance with New York State Corrections Law, Article 6-C, entitled Sex Offender Registration Act (SORA). SORA became effective in January 1996. SORA is New York's version of New Jersey's "Megan's Law". Megan Kanka was a young girl, living in New Jersey, who was raped and murdered by a twice convicted sex offender, who was living in Megan's neighborhood. SORA mandates that certain convicted sex offenders must register with the Division of Criminal Justice Services in Albany and/or the local law enforcement agency.

It is important to understand that SORA has limitations. The law does not require that all convicted sex offenders register. In addition, many sex offenses go unreported. Therefore, there could be a sex offender living in your neighborhood and the authorities would not know it.

The information contained in the Sex Offender Registry is constantly changing. Therefore, the Madison County Sheriff's Office does not make any express or implied warranties concerning the accuracy of the information in the Registry.

  FAMILY WATCHDOG

Madison County Office of the Sheriff is pleased to announce a new partnership with Family Watchdog.  Family Watchdog has been in production since August 25, 2005.  Family Watchdog can proactively notify you when a registered sexual predator moves within five miles of a given address that you care about.  You may use any address that you want. Home. School. Church. Playground. Day care center. A parent's house. Whatever address is important to you.  Sexual predators have no physical borders, and are not confined to any given socio-economic group.  Our service uses email as a primary notification mechanism.  We are developing a voice service where we can call and leave a message for you, if you don't have an email address. We do NOT send direct mail information at any time. We receive our data from multiple sources. We combine and cross reference the data from all four sources in order to provide the most possible coverage and protection.  Family Watchdog can also track offenders and send you notifications if the specified offender has a change.    Family Watchdog allows you to see where registered sexual offenders live and work around you. There is no fee associated with looking up offenders and viewing maps.  All are welcomed and encourage to sign up for the free and valuable service, click on the link below to start.
